Pumpkin Roll

We explored gravity, force, and velocity during STREAM this week.  Students tested different pumpkins on a ramp to determine which pumpkin could roll the farthest.  It was neat to see the teams experiment with the different shaped pumpkins and adjust the ramp to get their pumpkin to roll farther.

Students discovered that pumpkins can roll farther when they are given a push, and the surface is on an incline.  One group also discovered, when their stem fell off, that this changed how the pumpkin rolled.  We also learned that dropping the pumpkin can cause it to break.  A broken pumpkin does not roll well!
