What happens when you break three crayons into pieces, and place them in a muffin cup? What happens if they are placed in an electric skillet on simmer? We discovered that the solid crayon turns to liquid! The three colors will mix together, and they will take the shape of the muffin cup. Wow!!
Each student selected two light colors and one dark color for their crayon melt. This was an easy and fun way to explore reversible and irreversible change. When we turned the heat off, the liquid crayons became solid again. Our "new" solid crayons, did not look like they did before!
